Despite mixed results in the 2023 elections , LP maintains that its grassroots support and widespread appeal remain strong enough to challenge and potentially unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The speculation gained traction following claims of a purported alliance involving Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi, the LP’s 2023 presidential candidate.
Kwankwaso, however, quickly refuted these rumors, labeling them as baseless and categorically denying any knowledge of such discussions. In response to the unfolding narrative, LP National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh clarified the party’s stance during an interview on Sunday, January 5. Ifoh stated that the LP remains focused on leveraging its grassroots momentum to compete as an independent force but left the door open to potential alliances if aligned with the party’s vision."
As it stands, Labour Party has not been approached or invited to any meeting whatsoever to discuss a coalition. What we see is a growing conversation about alternatives and strategies to achieve a decisive victory against the APC,” Ifoh explained. While LP acknowledges the potential benefits of a merger, Ifoh emphasized that the party’s strong showing in 2023 underscores its ability to stand alone.
With the political landscape heating up, LP’s determination signals a growing push for change and a challenge to Nigeria’s established political order.
