Edolites, Honor Yourselves and Our Children’s Future (Part 1)

Beloved Edolites, there is a truth we must face with solemnity. Money may seem to offer fleeting happiness, but I ask, can it purchase integrity, or secure for us a future worth living? Consider the events of election day. The spectacle of our great state bowing to the lure of silver and gold! It is called Edo Decide 2024 for a reason—a decision not only for today but for generations yet unborn.

We have been entrusted with a right, sacred and powerful. The right to vote. Yet, this right, instead of being cherished, is being sold like a trinket at a marketplace. What has become of us when we trade our collective destiny for momentary gain? Let us no longer take this God-given opportunity for granted. Why does vote-selling persist in our land?:

1. Poverty and economic hardship — A cruel master that drives many to sell their vote in desperation.
2. Lack of civic education and awareness — Our people perish for lack of knowledge, for they do not see the significance of their vote.
3. Corruption and poor governance — We are led by those who see no wrong in purchasing power with stolen wealth.
4. Weak electoral institutions — Our laws are not enforced, and injustice reigns unchecked.
5. The influence of money politics — Our political landscape is marred by those who wield riches as weapons. But what, my people, are the consequences of such acts?
1. Undermining of democratic principles — When a vote is sold, democracy is betrayed.
2. Perpetuation of poor governance —We seal our fate to be ruled by those who care little for justice or progress.
3. Encouragement of corruption — By selling our votes, we invite corruption to flourish.
4. Disenfranchisement of the vulnerable — The weakest among us suffer the most, stripped of the power to demand change. 5. A threat to Nigeria's stability — What hope remains for a nation whose foundation is weakened by greed? But there is hope, Edolites ! There is a better way. Let us rise and reclaim the dignity that is rightfully ours!, By:

1. Refuse to sell your vote — Stand firm, and let no bribe sway you from your duty.
2. Educate others — Spread the message of wisdom; let your brothers and sisters know that a vote is sacred.
3. Report vote-buying — Do not remain silent in the face of wickedness; expose it.
4. Support credible candidates — Vote for those who are upright and worthy, who seek the good of all.
5. Participate in community advocacy — Let your voice be heard, and your actions be a beacon of righteousness. Let us not falter, dear people. The future of our children and the honor of our state depend on the decisions we make today. Rise, my people and honor yourselves by preserving the integrity of our Kingdom, for in doing so, we safeguard the future of our children.
